Marilyn began the shop in 2002 after having worked in the Early Childhood profession for nearly 40 years. For many years she dreamed of opening a Teddy Bear Shop with a tearooms to keep teddy fanatics happy but when she retired and started to sew again it became very obvious that Warburton needed a patchwork shop and tea rooms so the teddy bears transformed to be on quilts beautifully designed by Liz Stanway and Libby Richardson and Marilyn's own teddies adourn the high shelves sitting amongst the teapot display and "watching" everything that happens at The Patchwork Tea House!
We began in a gorgeous little house on the other side of the river but within 18 months it was obvious we had outgrown the house and we were lucky enough to be able to lease the prime building in the town - a 1930's style building that had been a historic landmark at the entrance to the Warburton township. It has been our home since 2005 and is the hub of "Fabric, Food & Friendship" to friends who come from near and far to visit us.
Our staff, many of whom have been with us since we began are dedicated to providing a service that ensures a wonderful day out and are an integral reason for our success.
Gary (Marilyn's husband) is "head of his harem", as the only male staff member and always says he keeps to his side of the gold line- making great scones, delicious homemade jam, wonderful coffees and looking after the staff and presentation of the Tea Rooms.
Our business philosophy is to provide a cozy environment focussed on hospitality, where women, men and children can come and stay all day if they wish. Many bring their sewing; many come for food and friendship. We hope you will visit us whenever you are nearby to Warburton.
In the meantime, we invite you to enjoy our website and become a regular friend.
